I shared the sculpt with peers and friends for feedback purposes. It's funny how some things you don't notice when you stare at the same concept for so long that details seem to blur together. Nevertheless, I spent the last couple days making those adjustments and the sculpt has made a big improvement, namely in the face.
I think part of me was afraid to making changes to face without ruining the clean shapes, but she felt uncanny. So I went in to carefully remold the mouth and face to vaguely follow facial muscles structure, reshape the exterior outline of the head and adjust the eye size and position. Now she looks cuter, less doll-eyed and follows the concept's face more closely.
Another issue pointed out was that the clothes looked bigger and baggier in the concept as if they were oversized on Riley. This involved a series of smaller changes, including:
- scaling down the head and adjusting size ratio between hair/hairbun.
- reshaping the neckerchief so the skinny neck was visible.
- redoing the folds across the components.
- increasing width of short leggings.
Other changes involved changing the size, width of tapering across all the clothing folds so they felt less modular.
Now I'm in a happier place with Riley's sculpt, NOW I'm going to progress to the next task.
